Prolific trumpeter/composer Dave Douglas is among jazz’s most influential artists. His latest project, Be Still brings together elements of jazz, folk and Americana. The work is a series of folk songs and hymns to which he holds a deep personal connection. The hymns were performed recently at his mother’s memorial service. This compelling release introduces a newly formed quintet that includes Jon Irabagon, Matt Mitchell, Linda Oh, Rudy Royston and a guest singer by Aoife O’Donovan. Be Still marks the first recording in Douglas’ extensive discography to feature a vocalist. The memorable listen features the centerpieces “High On A Mountain,” “Barbara Allen” and “Middle March.”
