About the Series
Beginning this summer, Decca Records will release an unprecedented series of Beethoven recordings - all of the composer's complete symphonies, piano concertos and piano sonatas. The label has recruited one of Beethoven's greatest interpreters, Daniel Barenboim.

Daniel Barenboim Speaking About the Project
“I think the Beethoven symphonies with the Divan orchestra is different in the sense that there is a terrific amount of energy because of the youth of the people – but there is just as much rigour. The combination of rigour with youthful energy is very strong” (Daniel Barenboim, speaking in the TV documentary on this project).

This summer Decca Records has launched an unprecedented series featuring Beethoven’s complete symphonies, piano concertos and piano sonatas. The first two installments, released in June of 2012, have received wide accolades, debuting at #1 and #3 on Billboard’s Top Classical Albums. The series continues with the release of Beethoven’s Piano Concertos Nos. 1-5 with the acclaimed conductor-pianist leading the Stattskapelle Berlin. This monumental performance dazzles with Barenboim’s innate ability to surprise audiences. The performances are technically flawless and enthralling. Already praised by The Financial Times, this third volume is set to follow its early predecessors.

Reviews
The performance bore the hallmark of greatness, if only because of Barenboim s willingness to take risks. In his rapt opening bars, he opened the audience s ears; then he let the music fly, not just in his own quasi-improvisatory flourishes at the keyboard but also in the way he and his orchestra explored the music s expressive contrasts. By generating a lot of flexibility within a given tempo, he created a sense of surprise. However well-worn the music, it never sounded predictable. - The Financial Times
