Piano: Borah Bergman
Violin: Stefano Pastor
Though Borah Bergman and Stefano Pastor are both experienced players in the world of free jazz, it is rare to find a piano and violin duo in the genre. This album, recorded on July 1, 2007 at the Jazz Fuori Tema Festival in Tortona, Italy, shows us that there is much that the combination can offer. Pastor has created a very unique sound as a violinist by restringing his instrument with heaver, more rigid electric guitar strings. This change allows him to obtain a heavier sound on the violin that is more like the direct sound of a wind instrument such as a saxophone. Bergman's playing demonstrates his creative ability to fuse a wide variety of musical styles into an amalgam that is entirely his own. combining elemtns of blues, ragtime, free-jazz, and classical, he deftly plays with Pastor, and the two create an exciting, yet intimate performance.
