The intensity of Hakola's response to the music compels attention through every bar of the [central] movement...The Oulu Symphony Orchestra are on fine form throughout and Santtu-Matias Rouvali directs with assurance.”

- Gramophone Magazine, Awards Issue 2013

The Oulu Symphony Orchestra are based just outside the Arctic Circle and consequently not so well known further south, but it ought to be - their performances here are terrific.” MusicWeb International, 27th November 2013

Kimmo Hakola's Guitar Concerto is a colourful exploration of themes connected to both medieval and modern Southern Spain and Northern Africa, performed
Timo Korhonen, one of the world's most acclaimed guitarists. Korhonen has premiered over 40 new works during his career.

Toshio Hosokawa takes a more meditative approach as he searches for symbolic universal harmony in his music. In this recording the concerto is performed by the
Oulu Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Santtu-Matias Rouvali

Santtu-Matias Rouvali has recently made a number of significant international debuts. He participated in the Dudamel Fellowship Programme in 2011/12, and will start his tenure as Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra in September 2013. He is also the Principal Guest Conductor of the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra. This CD is his debut disc.

This album was mastered using our 2xHD proprietary system. In order to achieve the most accurate reproduction of the original recording we tailor our process specifically for each project, using a selection from our pool of state-of-the-art audiophile components and connectors. The process begins with a transfer to analog from the original DXD master, using cutting edge D/A converters. The analog signal is then sent through a hi-end tube pre-amplifier before being recorded directly in DXD using the MSB Platinum Studio ADC plus.  All connections used in the process are made of OCC silver cable.

DSD and 192kHz/24Bit versions are separately generated, directly from the analog signal.
