In 1976, guitarist Earl Klugh made his self-titled debut, which easily crossed beyond the categories of jazz, country, classical, pop, R&B and world music. Four decades and over thirty recordings later, the GRAMMY® Award-winner and twelve-time nominee has recorded with all the greats from George Benson, Stevie Wonder, Bob James to Miles Davis and Chick Corea.
His first album on Heads Up International is a soulful, sixteen-track collection featuring guest appearances by Vince Gill, Bill Frisell, and Jake Shimabukuro. HandPicked is Klugh’s first project containing duets stripped down to the purest sense of the word, his first largely solo record with multiple original solo guitar pieces and his most personal and profound recording to date.
Standouts on the record include the wistful, western take on the 1930’s standard “Blue Moon,” the Grand Ole Opry-grooved “All I Have To Do Is Dream” and a thrilling cover of Eagles’ “Hotel California.”
