This album from PentaTone Classics features the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Gordan Nikolic. Mozart wrote a total of 12 serenades in his lifetime; these works were usually written for a special occasion of social importance. The serenade on this recording, No. 7 K. 250, was written to be performed by a walking orchestra throughout the evening of July 21, 1776. Mozart himself played the violin solos in movements 2, 3, and 4. Gordan Nikolic aptly doubles as conductor and violin soloist on this recording.
