Although it lies in Turkish soil near the Armenian border, Christian Armenians nevertheless see Mount Ararat as a national symbol. Despite the difficult history of these two neighboring peoples, the region has produced much that is positive in a musical regard. ‘Views from Ararat’ brings together important composers from these two hostile nations, such as Ahmed Adnan Saygun and Arno Babajanian, whose works bears witness not only to the music of their native countries, but also to all they learned and experienced in the great musical capitals of Paris and Moscow.
