* Required Fields

"I thought . . . that sooner or later someone would and must appear, fated to give us the ideal expression of the times, one who would not gain his mastery by gradual stages, but rather would spring fully armed like Minerva from the head of Kronion . . . "
The words are Robert Schumann's from his famous article "Neue Bahnen" in which he introduced the young Johannes Brahms to the musical community of Germany and thrust him to center stage in one fell swoop. The effects on Brahms were profound: it gave him a stature which otherwise might have been years in coming, but also created a burden of expectation which intensified his already severe tendancy to self-criticism.
