Ladies and Gentlemen, don't expect to be seated at your desks for much of this. You are not about to hear just first grade funk. This is a major thesis delivered by the maestro.
Nothing compares to his live shows, but just in case you didn't take notes or need a refresher course, here is a master-class in rhythmic grooves: the distinctive sound of that undercutting horn, weaving a story, defying you to do anything except participate. Here 'The Teacher', Mr. Maceo Parker, gives more than a glimpse of his lessons/shows with uncut funk.
Luckily for us all, Maceo stopped considering teaching as a career when he discovered the dream of most musical educators was to perform. His love of performing on stage and to connect through music took over. And he's stayed unswervingly on that path for the last four decades.
Maceo's contributions to music -and to funk music in particular- have sealed his place in history: as an artist of legendary status. You could say he became the educator he set out to be - he just took the slightly longer, funkier route.
So clear your desks, you'll be dancing on them shortly: School's In!
