The Berlin Philharmonic
Gustavo Dudamel, conductor

This new release from Deutsche Grammophon is a truly breathtaking new recording from, quite simply, the most exciting and gifted young conductor of our times. A rite of passage and true legacy project, this is Dudamel’s debut recording with the legendary Berlin Philharmonic. Recorded live at the Philharmonie in Berlin, whose acoustics were designed expressly for the brilliant, luxurious tonalities of this late-romantic music, this new recording of the epic, evocative and virtuosic, Richard Strauss’s beloved tone poem, Also sprach Zarathustra will surely delight listeners old and new.

The work itself, Also sprach Zarathustra, was inspired by Nietzsche’s poem, and immortalized in Kubrick’s science-fiction cinema classic, 2001: A Space Odyssey. Don Juan and Till Eulenspiegel are concert-hall favorites: ebullient, optimistic and filled with Straussian melodic and harmonic invention.
