Sugar is legendary saxophonist Stanley Turrentine’s 1971 masterpiece. The performances feature Turrentine joined by esteemed virtuosos including Freddie Hubbard, George Benson, Ron Carter, Billy Kaye, Lonnie L. Smith Jr., Butch Cornell and Richard “Pablo” Landrum. The album was one of his firsts for CTI after departing with Blue Note. This grooving album features the stellar classics “Sugar,” “Sunshine Alley” and “Impressions.” This is one of Turrentine’s greatest works.

4.5 stars out of 5 -- "Turrentine's honky-tonk tone and razor-sharp phrasing refuse to fade into the background." - Downbeat
