Coming off their 2012 Grammy-winning album, Nobody Knows You, Tell The Ones I Love proves to hold equal charisma and sharpness that brought their first album so much success. Yes, the Steep Canyon Rangers have received widespread exposure & critical acclaim as Steve Martin’s backing band, but anyone who knows the Steeps and has heard them play, know that it is Steve Martin who is THEIR celebrity! Even Steve would tell you that. Along with winning the Grammy for their last album Nobody Know You (without Steve) they have also won multiple IBMA awards, including Entertainers of the Year.

Steep Canyon Rangers wanted Tell The Ones I Love to reflect the spirit of their concerts — an original, freewheeling, high-energy approach to bluegrass that rests mainly on the songwriting of Graham Sharp and Charles Humphrey. They recorded the album almost entirely live, using few overdubs. While the Steep Canyon Rangers were certainly open to recording songs by other composers, or to dip into traditional material, Campbell ultimately had them record all original tunes, based both on the strength of the songs and the band’s arrangements. A good decision all around.
