This is guitarist Phil Upchurch's twenty-first album, and could be his finest! Since the mid-1960s, Phil Upchurch has played with Herbie Hancock, Aretha Franklin, Dizzy Gillespie, Bo Diddley, Branford Marsalis, Whitney Houston, Grover Washington, Quincy Jones, Smokey Robinson, Stan Getz, The Crusaders, The Staple Singers, Gene Ammons, Rotary Connection, Ray Charles, Chick Corea, Michael Jackson, Al Hirt, Marvin Gaye, Carmen McRae, Donny Hathaway and Curtis Mayfield. Upchurch likes to play popular music in a warm, blues-drenched, jazzy style. Using his regular quartet, which consists of piano, bass, drums, and percussion, he performs instrumental versions of songs as diverse as Steely Dan's "Jack Of Speed," Nat Adderley's "Jive Samba" and LTD's "Back In Love Again." One would be hard-pressed to categorize this music; as one of the world's busiest studio musicians, Upchurch just plays the music he loves.
Reviews"A fine colleciton of tunes that spotlight his 6-string prowess...three out of five stars." - Down Beat
